PADDLING PROGRAM

Healthy exercise, a chance to meet new friends, and competition amongst world class athletes, are just a few of the offerings of our paddling program. For first timers and seasoned paddlers, this program is guaranteed to give you a workout.

Training for the regatta season is held in the late afternoons of April through August. Out-of-canoe conditioning includes jogging, light weight lifting, and aerobic conditioning. Paddling practice is held in any one of the club's seven canoes: a Bradley, a Force Five, a Hawaiian catamaran, a Hawaiian class racer and three Mirages.

The pre-regatta long distance season starts in April of each year. Four long-distance races are held from mid April: the Waikiki Beach Boys Invitational, Magic Island Race, and the Iron Men & Women race in Haleiwa. The regatta season begins in June and continues until the state races, held the first week in August.

The long-distance season begins usually with two distance races prior to the popular Queen Liliuokalani Race in Kona, where canoe crews from all over the world compete in an 18-mile race from Kailua Bay to Honaunau. The season ends with the Na Wahine O Ke Kai in September for the women and the Molokai Hoe in October for the men.
